England's The Guardian newspaper called her character "Charmingly witty, quietly wise". I really like that and think it's highly accurate.

Who represents women in late-night arena?

[Jun-27-2008]

Aly made an appearance at the Los Angeles Film Festival (June 19-29) on a discussion panel with Jennifer Tilly, Janeane Garofalo and Illeana Douglas. Defamer.com was there and posted the exchange when the talk turned to the lack of females hosting late-night talk shows.

Ms. Hannigan didn't see the slight as intentional, but some of the other panel members did.

'Mother' season finale tonight and USAToday article

[May-19-2008]

The season finale of How I Met Your Mother airs tonight, May 19, 2008 on CBS. This will be your last chance to see Aly in something new until the series picks up again in the fall. Entitled "Miracles", the episode airs at 8:30 p.m. et/pt.

The USAToday site has a nice article on Alyson, covering various subjects including the season finale, where we will see more of Lily and Marshall dealing with their financial woes; Britney's appearance (of course); her marriage with Alexis and summer plans to visit his family on the east cost; and her shopping habits, and do they parallel Lily's.

How I Met Your Mother is a comedy about Ted (Josh Radnor) and how he met his wife. The episodes are told in flashback from the future where Ted is telling his kids the story of how they met. Set in present day, it also stars Neil Patrick Harris as Barney, Jason Segal as Marshall, Ted's best friend and his wife Lily (Alyson Hannigan).

Get stuff from Aly!

[May-17-2008]

If you remember from the May 12th episode of How I Met Your Mother, Marshall had Lily sell her things to raise money for repairs needed for their apartment. To do so, Marshall created a website called http://lilyandmarshallselltheirstuff.com.

In a cool move, the producers of the show actually secured that domain name and partnered with Charity Folks Online Auctions to do an auction for, you guessed it, charity. Benefiting the Childrens Hospital of Los Angeles, you have until May 27, 2008 to bid on items selected from the show, many of them Aly's!

At the top of the bidding list is a chance to visit the set and meet the cast of How I Met Your Mother. Also included in the auction is a cast-signed script and DVD autographed by the cast, 8 dresses worn by Alyson, a jacket worn by her, a striped sweater, Lily's Marc Jacobs shoes (European size 37 1/2, appx U.S. size 7), a purple blouse worn by Aly in the episode "The Goat" and two bags featured in the show. (Note: the four paintings from the show that are said to be painted by Lily were not painted by Alyson, but by a staff member of the show. Thanks, Smiley!)

If you've always wanted to own something used or worn by the lovely Ms. Hannigan and help a worthy cause, this is your chance! Right now, some things are quite pricey, but others are what some folks could consider reasonable depending on their current financial standings. Take a look and check it out!

Forgive Maxim? Not quite yet

[May-16-2008]

E! Online is not happy with Maxim and taking them to task on a recent article featuring (what else?) "hotties". The E! website article entitled "The Heat of 100 Hotties" had this to say about a bizarre list of "the world's most beautiful women".

Quote:
As well, the editors clearly never forgot their first piece of American Pie, putting not one but two slices of the movie's cast on the list: cover girl Shannon Elizabeth and the inexplicable Mena Suvari. Had they included the divine Alyson Hannigan, we might have forgiven them, but...

The article also takes an easy swing at Maxim's writing in the article, expressing exasperation at the lack of original comments. Of Eva Longoria Parker, "Hotter than a truckload of jalapenos. (Please.)"

On the Scoville scale, jalapeno's only rate only around 6th on a scale of 17 or so.

CBS announced today that two additional shows will be renewed for the fall season, including How I Met Your Mother! Britney returns to 'Mother'

[May-08-2008]

Next week's episode of How I Met Your Mother, "Everything Must Go" will feature the return of Britney Spears as Abby, the character she played two months ago as a publicity stunt. The cast and crew were impressed enough with her performance to invite her back for another show. Aly said of her first appearance, "I had no idea she had such comedic timing."

In a statement via CBS, Spears mentioned that "Abby is going to have a lot of fun. I couldn't wait to come back. I had such a great experience the last time I was on the show." She also said, "I was really looking forward to working with the cast and crew again. Everyone was so nice".

While this bit of news may not be as Aly-centric as AHAS likes to report, Britney's first appearance did wonders for ratings and this next time should provide another boost. The show has yet to be officially renewed for the fall season, so anything to increase those chances is a good thing. The episode airs May 12th.

How I Met Your Mother is a comedy about Ted (Josh Radnor) and how he met his wife. The episodes are told in flashback from the future where Ted is telling his kids the story of how they met. Set in present day, it also stars Marshall (Jason Segal), Ted's best friend and his wife Lily (Alyson Hannigan).

'Mother' garners highest ratings ever

[Mar-25-2008]

Britney Spears' "comeback" from her recent mental troubles helped How I Met Your Mother to achieve their highest viewership since the show launched in the Fall 2005 season. Nielsen Media Research estimates the show had about 1 million more viewers last night.

HIMYM scored a 4.5 rating among adults 18-49, meaning approximately 10.6 million viewers (up from last week's 9.7 million) tuned in to watch. Aly's show was the fourth-highest-rated show of the evening, helping CBS declare itself the winner ratings-wise.

Britney played a secretatry to a dermatologist Ted (Josh Radnor) was attempting to woo. She believes Ted is interested in her and had several small scenes, interacting with several members of the cast. Backstage reports were that Britney did a great job and had good comedic timing. Critics across the 'net also seem impressed with Britney's performance.

How I Met Your Mother is a comedy about Ted (Josh Radnor) and how he met his wife. The episodes are told in flashback from the future where Ted is telling his kids the story of how they met. Set in present day, it also stars Marshall (Jason Segal), Ted's best friend and his fiancee Lily (Alyson Hannigan).

Aly a no-show. Highlights anyway.

[Mar-22-2008]

The PaleyFest 08 Buffy reunion went off as planned, but a couple of the expected attendees were not present. Sad to say, Alyson was one of those missing, along with Anthony Stewart Head (Giles) and David Boreanaz (Angel).

Several websites covered the session, but I think IF Magazine's coverage was the best. Check it out for the whole story. Here are some highlights...

From Zero to 'Once More With Feeling'

David Greenwalt (Executive Producer and co-creator of 'Angel') said

Quote:

When we started BUFFY, [Joss] had this keyboard, and if he used three chords, I would give you a hundred bucks. He was playing around on this keyboard and five or six years later, he writes a musical that is worthy of Broadway.

Before there was 'American Idol'...

James Marsters (Spike) commented on everyone being required to sing in 'Once More With Feeling'.

Quote:
Tony Head and I were already recording and we were kind of comfortable with it, but like a lot of the actors, we weren’t professional singers. The thing I loved about it, how everyone screwed their courage to the sticking place and did it and came through, because they knew we had a great script. What was so impressive to me, was the courage of the cast to do something they weren’t expert at, especially Sarah.

Will there ever be a 'Buffy' movie?

Joss had this to say,

Quote:
My answer would be, there are so many stars that would have to align, but there’s a reason I worked with all these people for so long, they’re enormously talented and clearly from the comic, it’s a story I can’t let go. I think it would be really cool.

Willow and Tara's relationship caused some executive angst

Joss was contacted by the WB about the lesbian relationship,

Quote:
They only called me once. They said “you know, we have a lot of gay this year. We’re kind of gayed out. DAWSON’S [CREEK] and this other show.” And I said, “I don’t watch those shows, we’re going to do this thing. It’s true to the character, it’s what we’re going to do.” And they said “do we have to have the kiss.” And I was like, “I’m packing up my office.” I never pulled that out, except that one time.

Post-strike returns garner premium ratings

[Mar-19-2008]

The return of shows like How I Met Your Mother following the writer's strike was met with some of the highest ratings of the season. Apparently, much of America has been wandering the streets, Aly-less for far too long.

CBS kicked off it's return on Monday, March 17th. Another sitcom, The Big Bang Theory, which followed HIMYM had been garnering better ratings than Aly's show before the strike. CBS made the decision to swap the showtimes to have a better lead-in to the evening lineup under the theory that viewers are less likely to change channels between shows. Ratings results indicate the time slot itself may be the better indicator of potential viewership. At its new time, HIMYM returned to the dominating position, pulling in 9.7 million viewers as opposed to Big Bang's 9.1 million.

These numbers are good news for HIMYM which has yet to be renewed for the fall season.

Aly comments on Britney appearance

[Mar-13-2008]

With How I Met Your Mother back in production after the writer's strike, the media is reporting that Britney Spears is a big fan and contacted the show about appearing in a bit role. The producers gave her the part of a "sweet-natured" receptionist at a dermatologist office. Interestingly enough, the dermatologist was to be played by Alicia Silverstone who backed out at the last minute when she heard about Britney's casting. Reports range from Alicia not wanting to be upstaged by the troubled pop star to "avoid what she assumed to be a totally chaotic scenario", according to E! News. The part of the dermatologist will now be played by Scrubs star Sarah Chalke.

This episode is the third one filmed since the writer's strike ended. With new episodes starting next week on the 17th, expect the Britney episode to air around three weeks after that.

Alyson commented on the Britney appearance to E! News saying "I have been quite impressed by Britney’s performance. The character she is playing is very sweet and endearing, which seems to come naturally to her. Not to mention, she has good comedic timing, which helps, given we’re a sitcom.”

The drought endeth

[Mar-10-2008]

And Aly returneth. With the writer's strike behind us, it was only a matter of time before the primetime shows returned to the airwaves. How I Met Your Mother is slated to return March 17 with the episode entitled "No Tomorrow".

"Ted and Barney go out in the town to celebrate St. Patrick's Day as if the world was going to end the next day. They start out with two girls, whom they ditch to get into a club full of women. It seems that for every bad deed they do, something good happens."

Another nail in Buffy coffin

[Oct-14-2006]

Digital Spy UK reports in an article that Sarah Michelle Gellar has again pushed away thoughts of reuniting for a return to Sunnydale.

She mentions that her age would be the main reason for not considering a return. "Buffy will be killing her with her cane," laughed Gellar. The article continues with a recap of potiential spinoff and return rumors that have circulated during the three years since Buffy completed its seven year run.

Alyson's concerns are a bit more mature than Gellars, stating she "would just be too scared to sort of go back and possibly tarnish it in any way." Digital Spy website has the full article.

Aly in "documentary"

[May-29-2006]

Aly will be lending her vocal cords to an upcoming "mockumentary" Farce of the Penguins. Currently in production, Farce is a parody of March of the Penguins, the hugely successful (as documentaries go) documentary set in Antarctica. Written by Bob Saget, the film will feature his voice as the "lone penguin searching for love in the midst of a 70-mile trek".

Aly's role will be a cameo, along with Whoopi Goldberg, Harvey Fierstein, Jon Lovitz, Lewis Black, and others. The narrator will be voiced by Samuel L. Jackson. It is unknown at this time if Aly will be voicing the part of a flightless waterfowl, or some other Antarctic dweller.
